What merit did the Alter Rebbe attribute his release from prison?
…פָּדָה בְשָׁלוֹם נַפְש
וְהִיא שֶׁעָמְדָה לָנוּ לִפְדּוֹת חַיֵּי נַפְשֵׁנוּ
“This [Colel Chabad] stood by us to redeem the life of our souls”
בְּמַתַּן דָּמִים מָעוֹת אֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל מִדֵּי שַׁבָּת בְּשַׁבַּתּוֹ וּלְפָחוֹת מִדֵּי חֹדֶשׁ בְּחָדְשׁוֹ
“so that they should contribute money for the Land of Israel
EACH AND EVERY WEEK!"
כָּל פְּרוּטָה וּפְרוּטָה מִצְטָרֶפֶת לְחֶשְׁבּוֹן גָּדוֹל וְכו
“All the individual coins [given to charity] add up to a great amount (cheshbon gadol of Brachos),”
לִהְיוֹת מַעֲשֵׂה הַצְּדָקָה נַעֲשֵׂית בִּפְעָמִים רַבּוֹת, וְכָל הַמַּרְבֶּה – הֲרֵי זֶה מְשׁוּבָּח
The action of Tzedakah should be performed numerous times, and whoever increases is praiseworthy!
